Helen Zille has finally admitted that she received a sum of money from the owners of The New Age newspapers. After being cornered with tough questions Zille then admitted to have had dinner with the Guptas.
"The Guptas suggested that I come and fetch the cheque at their
house in Saxonwold, and it transpired that he was a senior executive in
one of the Guptas companies. I went
to the Guptas home, ate some of the most delicious food I have ever
eaten, and received the cheque for R200 000", Zille admitted.
It has also emerged that this is not the only sume of money Helen Zille received from Guptas. She had solicited more cash from the Gupta which amounted to R100 000. It has been established that the Guptas had asked for Zille to provide them with police escourt from the airport when they visited Cape Town. Zille admitted that this request had been made by the Guptas during one of their telephonic conversations.
This admission has angered many people who had trusted that she was honest and did not have anything to do with private businesses and individuals. Helen Zille was vocal during Jacob Zuma's court cases resulting from his relationship with Shabir Shake family. The judge dubbed their relationship as corrupt because Zuma was in the public office at the time although he was not a premier like in the case of Zille.
